Whale Watching on the Taz

Point Adolphus located near Gustavus is a popular spot for viewing Humpback Whales. These whales travel up to the Glacier Bay area each summer to feed after making a voyage of over 3000 miles from Hawaii, where they spend the winter months mating in tropical waters. Alaska Humpback Whales are amazing to watch feed, play, and show off their beauty. 

Occasionally, there are Orca sightings in Point Adolphus and around other areas of southeast Alaska as well. Though nicknamed the “Killer Whale”, Orcas are actually the largest species of dolphin. 

The Bear Track Inn partners with the m/v Taz to give our guests the best whale watching experience possible. These are half-day trips for our guests to take a scenic cruise over to Point Adolphus on the Taz to observe whales, porpoises, sea otters, and various other types of Alaskan wildlife. Learn to recognize whales by their sounds and unique behavior patterns such as bubble-net feeding, breaching, spouting air, and splashing their flukes against the water.
